Maintaining your vape is essential to ensure that it continues to function properly. Although vaping is simple, there are some key steps you must follow to keep your device in good condition. One of these steps is to regularly clean your tank.

A dirty atomizer can cause a strange taste and damage the lifespan of your vape. To prevent this, it’s recommended that you clean your atomizer each time you change your e-liquid or replace the coil.

Here’s a quick and easy way to clean your vape tank:

  1. Remove excess e-liquid by either pouring it out or creating a spinning centrifuge with a piece of string and a plastic bucket.
  2. Take out the coil and rinse the tank out.
  3. Allow the tank to air dry and use a Q-tip to clean any difficult spots.

Deep cleaning your atomizer

If your atomizer is showing signs of heavy buildup or an unpleasant taste while vaping, it may be time for a deep cleaning. Discolored and burnt coils will not function optimally, necessitating a more thorough cleaning. To deep clean your atomizer, disassemble it and allow all components, including the coil, to soak for approximately 30 minutes. Soaking the components in hot water may remove some buildup, but stronger cleaning agents may be necessary to eliminate stubborn tastes.

A few recommended products for this purpose include unflavored propylene glycol, vinegar, and lemon juice. Unflavored PG can mask strong tastes, while vinegar is highly acidic and capable of removing tough marks and burns. However, don’t let the atomizer soak in vinegar for too long, or it will develop an unpleasant odor. On the other hand, lemon juice is a natural acid that can effectively clean your coils and give a hint of citrus flavor to your next vaping session.

It is important to thoroughly rinse off any cleaning agents and allow the components to air dry before use.

While some vapers recommend using a strong alcohol solution to clean your atomizer, we advise against soaking the coils in these solvents as they can be toxic and potentially harmful to inhale. Additionally, leaving your atomizer to soak for too long may cause damage to the coils.

If you have soaked the atomizer for 30 minutes or more and notice an unusual taste, it may be time to replace the coil. However, it is important to remember that all coils will eventually need replacing.

To extend the lifespan of your coils, it is recommended to avoid chain vaping, prime new coils before use, stick to recommended usage limits, keep your tank topped up with e-liquid, and avoid using particularly dark, thick, or sugary e-liquids.

Some vapers suggest using a strong alcohol solution to clean your atomizer. We do not recommend soaking atomizer coils in these solvents because they are toxic and could be dangerous to inhale.

Strong alcohol solutions may also damage your atomizer if you leave it soaking for too long.

If you have soaked the atomizer for 30 minutes or more and it still tastes funny, then it may be time to replace the coil.

All coils need replacing eventually, but there are some things that you can do to extend the life of a coil. These include:

  • Avoid chain vaping
  • Prime a new coil before use
  • Avoid high wattage vaping, stick to recommended usage limits
  • Keep your tank topped up, avoid running low on e-liquid
  • Avoid e-liquids that are particularly dark and thick (usually e-liquids with a high VG content) and e-liquids that are sugary
